KCBS “PRO SERIES”

TEAM OF THE YEAR (TOY) RULES

Every year the Iowa Barbeque Society crowns the top competition team in Iowa with the prestigious KCBS “Pro Series” Team of the Year award. The award is presented to the winning team at the Annual Banquet held in January. The following summarizes the requirements and process for the Team of the Year “Pro Series”: 

  • Team(s) must be a member of the Iowa Barbeque Society in the current year
  • Teams must compete in a minimum of four (4) KCBS sanctioned contests in Iowa
  • Scores from the team’s four best KCBS contests will be combined at the end of the season to create each team’s “Pro Series” TOY score.
  • Scores are compiled by the Iowa Barbeque Society using official contest scoring information provided by KCBS.
  • The team with the highest “Pro Series” TOY score at the end of the season will be crowned the top BBQ team in Iowa!

 

IBS SANCTIONED “BACKYARD” SERIES

TEAM OF THE YEAR (TOY) RULES

Every year the Iowa Barbeque Society crowns the top competition team in Iowa with the prestigious “Backyard” Team of the Year award. The award is presented to the winning team at the Annual Banquet held in January. The following summarizes the requirements and process for the Team of the Year competition:

 

PLEASE NOTE:

Team(s) who compete in three (3) or more KCBS “Pro Series” or KCBS “Backyard” sanctioned contests are “NOT” eligible and are permanently excluded from the Iowa BBQ Society Backyard Team of the Year (TOY) Honors during any sanctioning year.

  • Team(s) must be a member of the Iowa Barbeque Society in the current year
  • Compete in a minimum of two (2) IOWA BBQ SOCIETY sanctioned “Backyard” contests in Iowa
  • Scores from the team’s 2 (two) best sanctioned contests will be combined at the end of the season to create the team’s “Backyard” TOY score.
  • Scores are compiled by the Iowa Barbeque Society using official contest scoring information created by the BBQ Society.
  • The team with the highest TOY score at the end of the season will be crowned the top BBQ team in Iowa!

 

IOWA BBQ SOCIETY “ROOKIE” TEAM OF THE YEAR

Every year the Iowa Barbeque Society honors the best newest cook of the year with this award. The award is presented to the winning team at the Annual Banquet held in January. The following summarizes the requirements and process for Rookie of the Year:

  • Team(s) must be a member of the Iowa Barbeque Society in the current year
  • Compete in a minimum of four (4) KCBS “Pro Series” sanctioned contests in Iowa
  • To qualify as “Rookie“, a team must NOT have ever won any awards at the IBS banquet and has NEVER cooked more than 4 KCBS “Pro Series” sanctioned contests in any state
  • Scores from the team’s four best sanctioned contests will be combined at the end of the season to create the team’s Rookie TOY score
  • Scores are compiled by the Iowa Barbeque Society using official contest scoring information provided KCBS
  • The Rookie team with the highest TOY score at the end of the season will be crowned Iowa Rookie team of the year

 

MOST IMPROVED TEAM (MIT) F.C. Parrish Award

Every year the Iowa Barbeque Society crowns the most improved KCBS “Pro Series” competition team in Iowa with the prestigious F.C. Parrish M.I.T. award. The award is presented to the winning team at the Annual Banquet held in January. The following summarizes the requirements and process for the M.I.T. competition:

  • Team(s) must be a member of the Iowa Barbeque Society in the current year
  • Have competed in a minimum of four (4) KCBS “Pro Series” sanctioned contests in Iowa the previous year
  • Compete in a minimum of four (4) KCBS “Pro Series” sanctioned contests in Iowa in the current year
  • Scores from the team’s four best sanctioned contests will be combined at the end of the season to create the team’s M.I.T. score
  • Scores are compiled by the Iowa Barbeque Society using official contest scoring information provided KCBS
  • The team with the highest differential score (current year TOY score minus previous year TOY score) at the end of the season will be crowned the M.I.T. award winner
